Azman (right) at the Ampang Sessions Court to face the charges of sexually assaulting a 17-year-old boy on Wednesday.

The 41-year-old pleaded not guilty to the charge read in front of Judge Norhazani Hamzah.

Clad in blue kurta and gray pant, had allegedly committed the crime in a room at a resort in Hulu Langat here, last July 22.

The charge was under Section 14(d) of the Sexual Offences Against Children Act 2017, which carries imprisonment for up to 20 years and whipping, if convicted.

Deputy public prosecutor Norhashimah Hashim prosecuted the case, meanwhile, Azman was represented by lawyer Mohamad Zahid Ahmad.

Norhashimah told the court if it wants to exercise its discretion to grant a bail, the prosecution suggests that it should be set at a high rate considering the seriousness of the crime.

"The victim in this case was a child, not to mention that the case will public attention due to the status of the accused, I hope he would be also prohibited from contacting the witness," she said.

However, lawyer Mohamad Zahid appealed for his client to be granted bail, stating that, Azman was accused with a similar case and the Klang Court had given him a bail of RM24,00 while the Seremban Court gave him a RM40,000 bail.

"I humbly request the minimum bail amount be imposed, I don't mind if additional conditions are imposed on Azman," he added.

After both requests were heard, Norhazani allowed the accused to be bailed at RM10,000 with a surety, with a condition to report himself at the nearest police station once a month

His passport was also handed over to the court and he was prohibited from approaching the victim.

The court set Feb 10 for mention.

On Dec 7, he was accused in the Klang Sessions Court and magistrate's court on four counts of sexually assaulting three teenage boys between February and August this year.

On Oct 12, he was also charged at the Seremban Sessions Court, on five counts of sexually assaulting two 17-year-old boys in February and July this year.
