The UT has completed over 99 per cent of the house-listing exercise for the Census, said Deputy Commissioner Nishant Kumar Yadav on Thursday.
The housing enumeration had started on May 1 and would continue till May 30.
Yadav, who is also the Principal Census officer in Chandigarh, said they had identified 2,054 housing blocks for enumeration and the exercise had been completed in 2,040.
“This means an overall progress rate of 99.17 per cent, which is a testament to the diligence, preparedness, and operational efficiency demonstrated by the administrative machinery of Chandigarh,” he said.
The house-listing exercise is a precursor to the population enumeration staring in February next year.
2,250 workers deployed
Under the exercise, more than 2,250 Census workers have been assigned the task of visiting households across Chandigarh.
They gathered information based on a detailed questionnaire comprising 33 parameters.
In Phase–II, population enumeration (PE) has been scheduled for February 2027.
The focus is on housing conditions, amenities and assets. This phase will form the basis for the second phase of population enumeration (PE).
Information confidential
The Administration urged the residents to actively participate in the Census process, provide accurate information, and extend full cooperation to enumerators. All information collected will be kept confidential and used only for statistical purposes.
The residents do not have to give any ID proof or document like Aadhaar card or voter card etc, to the enumerator or share any OTP or click any link during the Census process.
Earlier, self-enumeration was conducted from April 16 to 30. During that phase, the residents were afforded the opportunity to record their own demographic and household particulars.

The Census 2027 will be the 16th Census in India and the 8th after the Independence.
