Kota Kinabalu: The iconic century-old raintrees in Kasigui, Penampang will not be chopped down for road expansion works, said Penampang Member of Parliament Datuk Ewon Benedick.
He said the issue was discussed by the Penampang District Action Council on Thursday, adding that the Public Works Department (JKR) has assured that the project will not involve cutting down the five raintrees there.
“That’s the explanation given by JKR. I hope this decision stays,” he told reporters after the swearing-in and oath-taking ceremony of the newly-appointed Penampang District Council members for the 2023-2025 term, here.
