The CEO of GISB Holdings Sdn Bhd (GISBH), along with his wife and 20 others, are set to face charges in the Selayang Sessions Court today. These individuals are expected to be charged under Section 130V(1) of the Penal Code for their alleged involvement in an organized crime group, according to the Inspector-General of Police, Tan Sri Razarudin Husain.

This development follows earlier statements made by Bukit Aman Criminal Investigation Department (CID) director, Datuk Seri Mohd Shuhaily Mohd Zin. On October 10, Mohd Shuhaily confirmed that the top leader of GISBH was among 58 individuals re-arrested under the Security Offences (Special Measures) Act 2012 (SOSMA). This re-arrest is part of the broader investigation and operations linked to GISBH and alleged organized crime activities.

The investigation has seen numerous individuals either arrested or detained in relation to these charges. As of now, authorities have placed 35 people under remand, while 273 individuals have been granted bail. Additionally, 37 people have been released without any conditions. Authorities have also handed two individuals over to the Kedah Islamic Religious Affairs Department, while one person has been turned over to the Immigration Department for deportation.

This investigation is part of a large-scale operation known as "Op Global," which was launched in September as part of a broader crackdown on alleged organized crime activities. So far, 415 individuals have been arrested under this operation, including several key figures from GISBH. As the operation progressed, law enforcement also successfully rescued 625 victims, whose ages range from as young as two months to 28 years. These individuals are believed to have been victims of the alleged crimes involving the accused parties.

The arrest of the GISBH management, including its CEO, has sent shockwaves through various sectors, as the company is well-known in Malaysia. Authorities are continuing their investigations to determine the full extent of the criminal activities that have been allegedly perpetrated by the group.

SOSMA has played a central role in this case, allowing authorities to hold individuals without immediate charges under special measures, as the law is designed to address serious offenses such as terrorism and organized crime. The act, however, has also been the subject of debate due to its controversial nature, with some critics raising concerns over potential misuse in cases that do not involve national security.

As the case proceeds, it is expected to garner significant public attention due to the involvement of prominent figures and the scale of the alleged crimes. The Selayang Sessions Court hearings will likely shed more light on the charges and evidence against the accused, while authorities continue efforts to dismantle the alleged criminal networks linked to the case. The outcome of this case could have broader implications for how such investigations and prosecutions are handled under SOSMA in the future.
