Cesar Montano’s recipe for healthy aging

From his end, there’s hardly any conscious effort on the part of 64-year-old Cesar Montano to become an object of envy among men.

He is, however, very conscious about taking good care of his health. And how?

The actor proudly says he takes no maintenance medicines, unlike most, if not all, men his age. Instead, he relies on a simple daily routine to stay hale and hearty.

It all comes down to an abstemious lifestyle.

For as long as he can remember, Cesar has limited himself to just one meal a day, usually a little past lunchtime, with nothing in between.

His strict diet consists of black rice, fish and vegetables. Not even a morsel of meat.

Complementing this once-a-day meal is a complete avoidance of junk food, soft drinks and anything sweet.

Still, watching what one eats is not enough. It has to be paired with proper exercise.

For the sexagenarian actor, walking — whether leisurely or brisk — is the key. No strenuous gym routines, much less pumping iron until one drops.

Here’s the interesting part: Did you know that Cesar’s former partner, Sunshine Cruz — with whom he has three daughters — also eats just once a day?

While Cesar usually eats shortly after noon, Sunshine has her lone meal at around 2 p.m.

Given the actress’ svelte figure as she nears 50, one can only imagine that her health regimen is probably similar to Cesar’s.

Sadly, the difference is that Sunshine has been dealing with a “nerve disorder” that has forced her to slow down a bit from show business work.

WITH the flood control debacle far from being resolved, it is understandable that, as a vigilant nation, we cannot wait to see those behind it — especially those in the bureaucracy — face the consequences of their blatant malfeasance.

On the entertainment front, it is equally commendable that Bela Padilla has called out the so-called nepo babies, urging them to develop a sense of compunction for what she sees as their contemptible and complicit display of luxurious lifestyles in these precarious times.

Known as “the voice of reason,” the actress has challenged the scions of prominent families to do at least one meaningful thing “to lessen their feelings of shame and guilt.”

Her suggestion is simple: Support Benguet farmers by buying their produce.

Instead of allowing harvested crops to spoil or be discarded because they cannot reach Manila markets due to rising fuel costs, Bela said, “They might as well buy them!”

The danger, however, is that Bela’s well-intentioned appeal may simply fall on deaf ears.
