Manchester United's young midfielder Kobbie Mainoo must always remember his roots.

That is the view of ex-United midfielder Luke Chadwick, who knows about coming through the club's academy and into the first team.

Mainoo is yet to feature competitively this season, as he injured his ankle in pre-season, but he is a favorite of manager Erik ten Hag.

Asked about Mainoo by Manchester Evening News, Chadwick stated: "I think what Kobbie has done so far has been absolutely brilliant, he is a hugely gifted player and seems to have everything a central midfield player needs in terms of his passing range and his physicality on the ball. I think the advice I would give him is to keep doing what you are doing.

"A player like him who is doing so well is unlikely to be feeling a huge amount of pressure because when things are going well everything tends to run quite smoothly. Of course there will be dips in the road and challenges throughout his career but it is always a case of looking at why you started playing football, because it can get huge at a club like Manchester United, but remember to go back to those early days where it was about having fun.

"My advice to any young player when they are having dips in form is to remember why you started playing football and if he does that, he will have a great career because he is a huge talent."
