Kota Kinabalu: Sabah is now offering pre-school training opportunities to youth who are interested in becoming preschool teachers, aimed at meeting the urgent need for teachers at the early education level.
Sabah Preschool Teacher Preparation Centre (Pulapes) Chairman Ashley Taupik said with the increasing number of children, especially in the rural areas, Sabah needs around 3,000 to 5,000 new preschool teachers.
“This shortage of teachers is affecting the quality of early education received by children, especially in areas with limited access to qualified teachers,” he said. According to Ashley, preschool education plays an important role in the social, emotional and intellectual development of children.
Therefore, he said, the recruitment of sufficient teachers is critical to ensure that every child receives a quality foundation of education.
