The Union Ministry of Labour and Employment will disburse an amount of nearly Rs 3.26 crore among 5,435 first-time employees registered with the Chandigarh Regional Office of the Employees’ Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) during a ceremony on Friday.
Talking to mediapersons here on Thursday, Kishan Pratap Singh, Regional PF Commissioner-I, said an amount of nearly Rs 8.38 crore would be disbursed among 15,287 beneficiaries of Punjab and Himachal Zone under the Pradhan Mantri Viksit Bharat Rojgar Yojana (PM-VBRY).
Under the Centre’s Employment-Linked Incentive (ELI) Scheme, eligible first-time employees registered with the EPFO receive one month’s wage, up to Rs 15,000 in two instalments, while employers are provided incentives of up to Rs 3,000 per month per additional employee for a period of two years for generating additional employment. The manufacturing sector is eligible for extended support for an additional two years, thereby encouraging sustained job creation in labour-intensive industries.
To qualify, EPFO-registered establishments must recruit at least two additional employees (for establishments with fewer than 50 employees) or five additional employees (for establishments with 50 or more employees).
To mark the successful implementation of the PM-VBRY, the Ministry of Labour and Employment will organise a national event to be presided over by Prime Minister Narendra Modi at Vigyan Bhawan in New Delhi tomorrow. As part of a nationwide outreach effort, regional programmes will be organised simultaneously at 200 locations across the country.
In Chandigarh, Mayor Saurabh Joshi will attend the event at Goswami Ganesh Dutta Sanatan Dharma College, Sector 32.
