Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu on Wednesday announced a grant of Rs 1 crore for the construction of an indoor stadium at Maharana Pratap International Public School, Pathiar, in Kangra.

Paying tributes to the legendary Rajput warrior Maharana Pratap, the CM described him as an enduring symbol of sacrifice, self-respect, freedom and patriotism. He also honoured meritorious students and released a commemorative souvenir on the occasion.

Addressing a function organised at Dharmagiri, Pathiar, to mark the 487th birth anniversary of Maharana Pratap, Sukhu said the great ruler was not only a fearless warrior but also a visionary leader who never compromised on his principles despite facing immense challenges.

Referring to the historic Battle of Haldighati, he said the battle continues to inspire generations and remains a symbol of courage, sacrifice and an unwavering commitment to freedom and honour.

The CM urged the youth to follow the ideals of Maharana Pratap and imbibe the values of discipline, sacrifice and service to the nation.

Highlighting Himachal’s rich tradition of patriotism, he remembered the sacrifices of brave soldiers from the state, including Param Vir Chakra awardees Major Somnath Sharma, Colonel DS Thapa, Captain Vikram Batra and Subedar Major Sanjay Kumar.

Sukhu said the state government was working with determination to safeguard Himachal’s interests and strengthen its economy.

He stated that sustained efforts by the government had paved the way for the implementation of the 422 MW Kishau Dam Project and that the Centre had, in principle, agreed to bear nearly Rs 2,000 crore towards Himachal’s share of the power component cost.

“This will significantly reduce the financial burden on the state. Once completed, the project is expected to generate nearly 100 crore units of electricity annually and provide revenue of around Rs 600 crore every year,” he said.

Rajput Kalyan Trust president Kuldeep Thakur and patron advocate Tek Chand Rana also addressed the gathering.
