In a major breakthrough, the Chandigarh Police, with assistance from the Jammu & Kashmir Police, have reportedly arrested two accused — Aryan and Sunny Mehra — in connection with the broad-daylight attack at Sector 11’s Shri Kumar Medical Hall on June 13 that claimed the life of 45-year-old Janki Das.

Sources said a third accused, who allegedly fired nearly 13 rounds from a sophisticated weapon during the attack, remains at large. The weapon used in the crime has not yet been recovered.

The police reportedly tracked down the suspects after an intensive three-day manhunt. They eventually located them in Rajouri (Jammu & Kashmir). Highly placed sources said the accused are expected to be brought to Chandigarh on Wednesday, where police will seek their remand for further investigation.

According to sources, police teams from multiple states were involved in the operation. One of the arrested accused was reportedly already on the radar of the Jammu & Kashmir Police for allegedly threatening a relative of a police officer.

“The accused were traced through their digital footprints and surveillance inputs. The police also rounded-up some individuals, who provided the weapons, but the investigation is still underway," a police source said.

However, till the filing of this report, Chandigarh Police had not officially confirmed the arrests.
