The Chandigarh Golf Club auctioned three new franchises for the 2026 Chandigarh Golf League (CGL) during a highly competitive bidding process on Sunday.

The three teams were sold for Rs 65 lakh, Rs 63 lakh and Rs 61 lakh, underlining the growing popularity and commercial appeal of the league. With the addition of three new teams, as many as 24 teams will compete in the league. With the increase in the number of teams, an increased prize money has also been approved. The golfers will be allotted to these teams later. The names of the teams will be announced later by the new owners — Lt Gen IS Singha, Robin Aggarwal and Rakesh Kapur.

While six prospective bidders had deposited the required amount to participate in the auction, several fell short as bidding exceeded their anticipated budgets. The bidders included Lt Gen IS Singha, Robin Aggarwal, GS Jawandha, Vijay Gupta, Rakesh Kapur and Rajinder Singh Pammy.

“The addition of three new teams marks another significant milestone for the Chandigarh Golf League. Since its inception, the league has brought together amateur and professional golfers, corporate leaders and golf enthusiasts, creating a unique team-based format that has significantly enhanced competitive golf in North India,” said Major RS Virk, president of the club.

Funds generated through the franchise auction will be directed towards a range of social and development initiatives undertaken by the club. These include junior golf development programmes, caddie tournaments, educational support for the children of course staff, welfare projects and skill-development initiatives for families associated with the club.

Virk added, “We are overwhelmed by the response to the auction and are delighted to welcome the new franchises to the league family. The CGL has become a major fixture on the region’s sporting calendar and I am confident that this year’s edition will be even bigger and better.”

Scheduled to be played in October, the 2026 edition of the league is expected to feature leading professionals, accomplished amateurs and emerging junior golfers. The league has earned a reputation for combining high-quality competition with community engagement, making it one of the most distinctive golf events in the country.

The club has a rich golfing legacy and has produced some of India’s finest

players, including Jeev Milkha Singh, Gaganjeet Bhullar, Ajeetesh Sandhu, Karandeep Kochhar and Akshay Sharma.
