The Municipal Corporation is all set to float a tender to allot 89 paid parking lots under its jurisdiction for their operation and management. The agenda will be tabled in the General House meeting to be held on Monday.
The proposal says the revised parking rates approved by the General House meeting held on April 30 last year will be applicable after the implementation of the Smart Parking Solution programme. The House had approved a proposal to increase the parking rates by 30 to 40 per cent. The revised rates for two-wheelers are Rs 7 to Rs 10 for 15 minutes to 4 hours, Rs 10 to Rs 16 for 4 to 8 hours, with an additional Rs 5 per hour after 8 hours. The rates for the parking lots at Elante Mall, Fun Republic in Manimajra and the Piccadily multiplex have been approved as Rs 35 for up to 4 hours, Rs 50 for 4-8 hours, with an additional Rs 5 for every hour beyond that period.
Similarly, the parking rates for four-wheelers will be enhanced from Rs 14 to Rs 20 for a period from 15 minutes to 4 hours, Rs 25 for 4-8 hours and Rs 10 per hour for additional time. The rates for four-wheeler parking at Elante Mall, Fun Republic and Piccadily multiplex will be Rs 85 for up to 4 hours, Rs 155 for 4-8 hours and Rs 20 per hour for additional time.
The contractor selected through the fresh tender will be required to equip the MC lots with smart parking features. The revised parking rates will come into effect after an inspection by a committee constituted by the MC.
The parking lots need to be equipped with the following smart features:
Smart boom barriers, licence plate recognition system for cars, ticket dispenser/digital ticketing, CCTVs at entry and exit points, FASTag reader, LED display and message boards, wireless handheld devices for staff, power backup for cabin/kiosk etc. The existing rates will be applicable at the 89 sites till the contractor makes these smart features operational at the parking lots.
Electric vehicles will be allowed free parking till March 31, 2027, in the earmarked spaces.
No parking fee will be charged for 10 minutes for pick-and-drop facility except at the parking sites at the Elante Mall, Fun Republic and Piccadilly multiplex.
For parking at all basement/multilevel lots, Rs 5 less than the applicable rate in the corresponding slab will be charged.
The firm winning the contract may, if it so desires, continue the “MC One Pass” scheme during the contract period or provide any other concession at its own level after getting the same approved from the competent authority. The contractor shall honour free parking passes issued by the MC. Around 1,500 free passes will be provided to eligible persons.
The MC has been running these parking lots since the last contract ended more than a year ago.
