
The Chandigarh Municipal Corporation has appealed to all property owners to pay their property tax well before the due date of May 31, to avail of rebate benefits and avoid penalty and interest.
During the ongoing assessment period from April 1 to May 31, property owners are eligible for a 20% rebate on residential property tax and a 10% rebate on commercial property tax.
The corporation has already issued demand notices for the current year’s property tax, along with applicable arrears, for commercial, industrial, institutional, government, and residential properties and land for Assessment Year 2026-27.
Appealing to citizens, Amit Kumar, Commissioner, Municipal Corporation, Chandigarh, said, “The property tax collected by the Municipal Corporation plays a significant role in strengthening civic infrastructure and enhancing public services across the city.” He urged all residents and commercial property owners to pay their property tax on or before May 31 to avail of the rebate. Timely payment will also help citizens avoid penalty and interest.
The last date for payment of property tax/service charges for all categories of properties is May 31, 2026. Thereafter, defaulters will be liable to pay a 25% penalty over and above the prescribed tax amount, along with interest at 12% per annum with effect from April 1, 2026, till the end of the month in which payment is made.
The commissioner said 61,910 assessees have paid Rs 49.08 crore to date. Property owners who have not yet received their demand bills are advised to check the current demand and arrears on the official e-Sampark portal and ensure timely payment before the deadline. With only four days left to avail of the rebate, citizens are requested to avoid a last-minute rush and pay their property tax at the earliest.
