
The Chandigarh Red Cross Society launched its bird welfare initiative, “Red Cross Panchi Basera”, at the Infosys Foundation Red Cross Sarai.
The programme was inaugurated by Nishant Kumar Yadav, Deputy Commissioner-cum-Chairman, Chandigarh Red Cross, in the presence of Secretary Amandeep Singh, Nodal Officer Punam Malik and other dignitaries, including Pavitar Singh, SDM (East), Piyush from the Infosys Foundation and SC Aggarwal, president, Chandigarh Senior Citizens’ Association.
The initiative aims at providing safe nesting spaces, food and clean drinking water for birds.
In the first phase, a dedicated bird habitat has been developed in the park area of the Infosys Foundation Red Cross Sarai with bird nests, feeding trays, clean drinking water facilities, a small pond and bird-friendly plants. In the next phases, bird nests, feeding trays and water facilities will be installed at suitable locations across Chandigarh.
The Deputy Commissioner appealed to people to actively support the noble initiative for the welfare of birds. He also encouraged residents to adopt sustainable modes of transport and support the Chandigarh Administration’s ‘No Car Wednesday’ campaign.
