- Channel 4 has announced that Married at First Sight UK will not return following an independent review into contributor welfare protocols.
- The review was launched after three female contestants raised allegations in a BBC Panorama programme, including two claims of rape by on-screen matches.
- The investigation found that elements of the show could implicitly pressure contributors to be intimate and cause participants to “lose touch with reality” due to restricted outside contact.
- Proposed format changes included scrapping “Intimacy Week”, allowing contestants to leave the show independently, and installing panic buttons and CCTV in participants’ apartments.
- Channel 4 Chief Executive Priya Dogra stated the show had run its course after ten years, confirming the budget would be reinvested into new original programming.
