KOTA KINABALU – Thousands gathered in Sandakan on Friday night in a show of solidarity for the late Zara Qairina Mahathir.

The rally reportedly began around 7pm and was scheduled to end at 9pm.

However, the crowd swelled as more people arrived to show their support and solidarity.

Participants chanted slogans demanding justice and expressed hope that authorities would take firm action against those involved in the bullying incident that claimed the life of the Form One student.

It is understood that similar rallies were also held simultaneously in several other locations, including Lahad Datu and Tawau, each drawing its own turnout.

Organisers said the rally was held peacefully and urged the public to remain united in voicing the call for justice for Zara Qairina.

The death of 13-year-old Zara Qairina Mahathir has shocked the nation amid growing outrage over suspected bullying at her school in Papar, Sabah.

Zara Qairina was reported to have fallen from the third floor of a religious school dormitory building in Papar on July 16, before being pronounced dead the following day at Queen Elizabeth I Hospital (HQEI).
