
Kota Kinabalu: A 67-year-old man was charged at the Sessions Court here on Friday with sexually abusing an 11-year-old girl.
Salamin Parman pleaded not guilty before Sessions Court Judge Amir Shah Amir Hassan to a charge of committing sexual abuse by touching the girl’s breasts.
He was accused of committing the offence at about noon on Feb 26 this year at a woman’s surau room in Tamparuli, Tuaran.
The charge, under Section 14(a) of the Sexual Offences Against Children Act 2017, carries a maximum jail term of 20 years and whipping upon conviction.
The court fixed Aug 13 for mention of the case and granted Salamin bail of RM10,000 with RM5,000 deposited in two local sureties with permanent addresses and employment.
He was also ordered to report to the nearest police station once a month, surrender his passport, if any, to the court and refrain from contacting or interfering with prosecution witnesses.
Deputy Public Prosecutor Nurul Shafeerah Mad Iskim appeared for the prosecution, while Salamin was not represented.
