TAWAU: A 23-year-old man was charged at the Magistrate’s Court here on Tuesday with trafficking 609.89g of MDMA (ecstasy).
Mohammad Shahrulrizan Razali, who was previously arrested with three other men, did not enter a plea after the charge was read out before Magistrate Don Stiwin Malanjum.
He was alleged to have committed the offence at the Globinaco Sdn Bhd (Tawau) premises in Taman Unipark, Jalan Utara, at about 3pm on Oct 13.
The charge was brought under Section 39B(1)(A) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, which carries the death penalty or life imprisonment and at least 12 strokes of the cane if the death penalty is not imposed, upon conviction.
The accused, who reportedly possesses only a birth certificate, was unrepresented by a lawyer.
Prosecuting Officer ASP Nur Intan Jamrin handled the prosecution.
The court fixed Nov 24, 2026 for mention pending the chemistry report. No bail was offered.
Earlier, media reports stated that four men were arrested by a team from the Tawau District Police Headquarters’ Narcotics Criminal Investigation Division during an Ops Tapis raid in the area, following information received from the Malaysian Border Control and Protection Agency (AKPS).
