Kota Kinabalu: A 42-year-old man was sentenced to a total of 18 months’ imprisonment by the Magistrate’s Court here after pleading guilty to injuring his brother-in-law and criminally intimidating his sister.
Magistrate Farrah Fariza Wan Ghazali handed down seven months’ jail to Wendy Doivit for voluntarily causing hurt to his 48-year-old brother-in-law at a house in Kampung Ganang, Kepayan, at 4.20pm on Oct 22.
The court also sentenced him to another 11 months’ jail on a second charge of threatening his 49-year-old sister with the words "Saya kasi pecah kau" (I will bash you) at the same house at 8.35pm on Oct 21.
The facts of the case revealed that Wendy reacted aggressively after his sister asked him to lower his mobile phone’s volume due to their ill father, before kicking his brother-in-law the following day when the latter attempted to defend himself.
The court ordered Wendy, who was unrepresented, to serve the custodial sentences consecutively from the date of his conviction, while Deputy Public Prosecutor Esther Cynthia Jebon appeared for the prosecution.
