Charity cyclist, 82, dies peacefully one day after completing epic six-week challenge

  • An 82-year-old charity cyclist, Bob Montgomery, died unexpectedly but peacefully a day after completing a 5,200km bike ride across Australia.
  • Montgomery undertook the six-week journey, named One Last Ride, with his grandson Tom Malcom, travelling from Broome to his home in Bowral.
  • The ride was part of his dedicated effort to raise funds and awareness for Motor Neurone Disease New South Wales.
  • He successfully raised £104,965 during this final ride, contributing to a total of almost £300,000 across six charity bike rides.
  • Montgomery, who experienced a medical episode, was passionate about the cause after his cousin died from the neurological condition 12 years prior.
