Charles Leclerc crashes out of the Italian Grand Prix

  • Alpine driver Pierre Gasly secured the first pole position of his Formula 1 career for the Italian Grand Prix, edging out Mercedes' George Russell by 0.060 seconds.
  • Oscar Piastri was demoted from third to sixth following a grid penalty for impeding, promoting Ferrari drivers Charles Leclerc and Lewis Hamilton to third and fourth on the grid.
  • Ferrari honoured Michael Schumacher 30 years on from his debut with commemorative logos on both cars, alongside a celebratory lap by Sebastian Vettel in Schumacher's 2002 title-winning car.
  • Gasly maintained his lead off the line before being overtaken by Russell, while Hamilton dropped to tenth following a first-chicane incident with Leclerc.
  • The race was stopped on lap three after Leclerc lost control and crashed heavily into the tyre barrier at Parabolica.
