Original stars Kate Jackson, Jaclyn Smith and Cheryl Ladd reunited in Los Angeles to celebrate the groundbreaking show’s cultural legacy

LOS ANGELES: The original stars of the iconic television series “Charlie’s Angels” reunited to celebrate the show’s 50th anniversary. Kate Jackson, Jaclyn Smith and Cheryl Ladd came together at the PaleyFest event held at the Dolby Theatre.

The crime drama aired for five seasons from 1976 to 1981 and became a major cultural phenomenon. It followed three women who left the Los Angeles police force to work as private detectives for an unseen boss named Charlie Townsend.

Jaclyn Smith, who played Kelly Garrett, said the series aimed to showcase female strength. She highlighted how the show broke away from traditional female roles on television at the time.

“Women came into their own, it was groundbreaking (and a) game changer for women,” Smith told AFP on the red carpet. “Here we were chasing danger (and) we were not being rescued.”

Kate Jackson, who played Sabrina Duncan, said she always believed in the show’s unique potential. The 77-year-old actress credited the chemistry between the original cast members for its enduring success.

“It was unique, it was unusual, and the three of us had chemistry… we’re still sisters today,” Jackson told AFP. The cast lineup changed several times throughout the show’s run.

Smith, Jackson and Ladd formed the most famous trio, alongside Farrah Fawcett who left after the first season. Fawcett, who died in 2009, later returned for guest appearances playing Cheryl Ladd’s character’s older sister.

PaleyFest is an annual television festival organized by the Paley Center for Media. The event celebrates landmark shows and their impact on American popular culture.
