Kota Kinabalu: A 50-year-old Filipino contractor was charged in the Sessions Court here on Friday with cheating a woman of RM8,000 over a proposed road upgrading project.
Benjamin Golucino JR, who is currently serving a sentence for illegal entry, pleaded not guilty to the charge before Sessions Court Judge Zaini Fishir.
Benjamin is accused of deceiving the 46-year-old woman into believing that he could secure a project to upgrade a concrete road at Jalan Kampung Guntas, Maang, Penampang, from the Penampang Municipal Council.
The charge stated that Benjamin dishonestly induced the woman to pay him RM8,000, which she would not have done had she not been deceived.
The offence allegedly took place at about 11.30am on April 13 this year at Jun Won K-Café, Metrotown, here.
The court fixed Oct 5 for mention. No bail was offered to Benjamin pending the date.
