Chelsea fullback Reece James had surgery on Thursday on a recurring hamstring problem.
The club captain updated fans on his condition through a social media post this week.
James was emotional about undergoing the operation that he hopes will allow him to remain fit in the long-term without recurring injuries.
"I think he feels well," manager Mauricio Pochettino told reporters.
"As we are talking, he has started his recovery. He is one day closer to be with the group.
"I think this is really positive. We are all really positive around him. We are all going to help him in the best way. And of course, it is always tough for a player that has a very complicated season, a very difficult season.
"It is about to recover. As I said before, it is one day less to be part of the group and we are going to take it in a positive way. The most important thing is to start to solve the problem, to help him be strong, be positive, because that is a very important thing."
