Chelsea boss Mauricio Pochettino admits that he was hoping to see his team improve at a faster rate.

The Blues are undergoing an extremely tough period, losing consecutive games to Manchester United and Everton within a week.

However, Pochettino defended his methods and his team, as he felt that it was a process that would take time to bear fruit.

He told reporters after the 2-0 loss to Everton: No. Who understands football? It's a new project, it's a new team. Too many circumstances. It's tough to explain.

The reality is too many problems and circumstances from the beginning of the season. It's not easy to build something new. That is what we were talking before. Expectation massive.

Reality now, we are thinking is different. It's about to take decisions, being strong in how we assess the team and being clever and take decisions to try to improve in the second part of the season, be more competitive and to get the results a club like Chelsea deserves."
