Chemist notes blood stains on Zara's handwritten paper

CHEMIST Nor Aidora Saedon from the Malaysian Chemistry Department in Petaling Jaya informed the Coroner's Court that there were bloodstains on a sheet of paper containing the handwriting of the late Zara Qairina Mahathir.

Nor Aidora said the bloodstains found on the paper marked 'Y8', covering areas Y8(ii) to Y8(vii), and on the paper marked 'Y1', covering areas Y1(i) and Y1(ii), were found to match the DNA profile of the 13-year-old teenager involved."The sample was analyzed for DNA comparison.

“The blood samples are consistent with each other and match the DNA profile obtained from the bone specimen marked ‘WK37’ and labelled ‘Zara Qairina Binti Mahathir.’

“This finding thus shows that the identified DNA comes from the same individual,” she said.

According to Nor Aidora, the bloodstains found on the paper labelled 'WK15(9)(a)' and the DNA traces collected from the book labelled 'WK13' also matched.

Nor Aidora testified before Coroner Amir Shah Amir Hassan as the 17th witness in the inquest into Zara's death.

She also explained that the papers 'Y1' and 'Y8' were a match that complemented each other.

In the proceedings on September 8, document examiner Nurul Atiqah Mohd Noh testified that the handwriting on several documents marked 'Y1' to 'Y15' and 'W1' and 'W2', which she analysed, was consistent with Zara's handwriting specimen. - October 7, 2025
