KOTA KINABALU: Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor has called on the people to cherish the meaning of Malaysia Day with renewed patriotism and love for the country.

In his Malaysia Day message, he urged Malaysians to safeguard unity and harmony among people of all races and faiths.

He said Sept 16 is a date of great significance as it marks the formation of Malaysia.

Hajiji said Malaysians must take pride in the historic day that signifies the nation’s sovereignty and independence.

He noted that while the formation of Malaysia has brought blessings and progress to society, the nation’s journey remains one of challenges.

He added the challenges ahead can only be faced through unity, solidarity and togetherness in the interest of the homeland.

The Chief Minister also called on Malaysians to embrace this year’s Malaysia Day theme, “Malaysia Madani: Rakyat Disantuni”, in line with the Sabah Maju Jaya Development Plan, which prioritises well-being, justice, unity and equitable growth.
