
Filipino Grandmaster Rogelio "Joey" Antonio Jr. is set to compete in the Australian chess circuit next month.
His first stop isthe Doeberl Cup (April 2-6) in Canberra, followed by the Sydney International Open (April 8-12), and his last stop is the Melbourne International Open (April 14-19).
The 64-year-old chess legend previously placed 4th in the 2025 Doeberl Cup in Canberra and 2nd in the rapid event of the Melbourne International Open.
His trip is being supported by National Chess Federation of the Philippines (NCFP) chairman and president Prospero Pichay Jr.
" I would like to thank NCFP chairman/president Cong. ProsperoPichay Jr. for his support in my Australian chess circuit campaign," said Antonio, who won the gold in the 2025 World Senior Blitz Chess Championships held in Gallipoli, Italy, and silver medal in the 2025 Thailand Southeast Asian Games in Bangkok, Thailand.
