Chief Secretary Tan Sri Shamsul Azri Abu Bakar outlines four key priorities for the public service: integrity-based governance, fast execution, digitalisation, and improved communication.

BANGI: The Chief Secretary to the Government has outlined four main priorities to strengthen public service delivery.

Tan Sri Shamsul Azri Abu Bakar said the focus areas are integrity-based values and governance, swift programme implementation, digitalisation, and strengthened communication.

He revealed the priorities after the 2026 Retreat of Ministry Secretaries-General and Heads of Service (KSUKP) here.

“The first focus is on values and governance, which involves issues related to integrity,” he told a media conference.

“The second relates to Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim’s call for programmes to be implemented quickly under the mantra of ‘fast execution and impactful results’.”

Shamsul Azri said the outcomes of the retreat would be presented to the Cabinet for action.

He added that the Prime Minister, who attended the retreat, emphasised a whole-of-government approach.

“We cannot work in silos. We must work as one team,” Shamsul Azri said, relaying the Prime Minister’s message.

The Prime Minister also stressed the importance of unity and rejected narrow racial issues.

“We must set aside trivial matters and focus on developing the people and ensuring their well-being,” Shamsul Azri added.

Also present at the event were Public Service director-general Tan Sri Wan Ahmad Dahlan Abdul Aziz and Treasury secretary-general Datuk Johan Mahmood Merican.
