Chiefs welcome back Eric Bieniemy after his wife was shot at their Virginia home

  • Kansas City Chiefs offensive coordinator Eric Bieniemy returned to team practice on Monday following the shooting of his wife, Mia, at their Virginia home last month.
  • The couple's 27-year-old son, Elijah Bieniemy, was arrested following the 26 July incident and charged with malicious wounding, firearm use in the commission of a felony, and discharging a firearm inside a dwelling.
  • Elijah Bieniemy's court appearances have been delayed after he was ordered to undergo a mental health evaluation.
  • While away from the Chiefs' pre-season training camp at Missouri Western State University, Eric Bieniemy stayed in regular contact with head coach Andy Reid and staff to assist with team preparations.
  • Eric Bieniemy, who previously helped lead Kansas City to two Super Bowl victories during a prior coaching stint, rejoined the franchise ahead of their opening game against the Denver Broncos on 14 September.
