China paper giant is seeking 250,000ha in Sabah

Kota Kinabalu: China Liansheng Pulp & Paper (Zhangzhou) Co., Ltd., which has an annual paper production value of over $20 billion yuan is looking for 250,000 hectares to plant large-scale paper forests.

Capital Associates Group Managing Director Datuk Seri Dr Ling Hie Sing said senior executives of Liansheng Pulp & Paper have frequently come to Sabah to study the feasibility.

The company’s papermaking base in Zhangzhou, Fujian Province, covers about 4,600 acres and has more than 5,000 employees.

“Liansheng Pulp & Paper is looking for a large area in Sabah to fulfil the demand for planting paper forests.”

Ling said it would bring the prospect of quite advanced technologies, rapid planting and production advantages to Sabah, and create more new technology employment opportunities.

He said China has experienced rapid development and progress in new business forms in the entire economy.

“We should seize the opportunity to promote the emerging driving force of Sabah’s development and promote high-quality full employment and economic benefits,” he said.

Ling said this type of large investment can solve employment opportunities quicker.

He also hoped Sabah’s government increases its friendly policies and integrate the concept of creating prosperity and progress in Sabah.
