A small but heartwarming act recently captured the attention of many Malaysians after a Chinese man went to a school to sign the report card of his Indian neighbour’s child.
The man did not hesitate to step in even though the child was not his and came from a different racial background.
He also voluntarily offered to pay the school’s Parent-Teacher Association (PIBG) fees on the child’s behalf.
Attended the school to help his neighbour
The story was shared on Threads by user @nadeyamiza, who recounted how the man attended the school to help his neighbour.
When asked by a teacher about the PIBG fees, the man reportedly responded, “It’s okay, I’ll pay,” adding that people should always help one another.
The gesture quickly drew positive reactions online, with many praising the man as a reflection of Malaysia’s multiracial unity and the enduring spirit of mutual care within local communities.
“This is Malaysia. We are Malaysians. I don’t understand why lately I’ve been seeing so many people talking about race using ‘Type’ and whatever else.”
“My family was also loved by our neighbour. He was an ustaz in his 80s. I used to play with his daughter, who was the same age as me, in Banting. I still remember her name was Wawa. I called her sister Kak Long. Since childhood, my family was introduced to many delicious Malay dishes, including beef. At that time, Chinese people rarely ate beef, but we loved it. We were invited to many of their kenduri, ate with our hands, and really enjoyed watching them cook in the backyard during the old days. ❤️”
