Ching Byn wins International 470 overall title

Kota Kinabalu: Chia Ching Byn won the International 470 overall title at the 22nd City Day Open Regatta held at the Kinabalu Yacht Club (KYC) on Sunday.

She and crew member Thomas Kong took the top prize while in second place was the pairing of Muhd Daniel Iqbal Muhammad Samsu and Dato’ Chairullah followed by veteran division winner Leonard Chin and Josie Joinol in third. The victory was also Chia and Kong’s second of the year, having won the club’s Ship’s Bell Trophy in January.

In the ILCA (International Laser Class Association) 6 category, the overall title was won by women’s division winner Gabrielle Marygrace Yong Poquita while men’s division winner Mohd Reezmin Ismah had to settle for second place with Nur Hafizahanani Zailan coming in third.

The top three winners in the ILCA 4 overall category were Laurenz Leonardo Daim, Mohammad Syahieradham Raiman and Zeti Irdina Zainal. Laurenz and Zeti were also winners in the men’s and women’s division.

The Optimist Overall’s title was won by Hafizanah Zailan followed by Muhammad Aiman Aqeel Mohd Firdaus and Kee Alaeana Abdullah. Nur Hafizanah also took the division A title while Ziqri Luqman Zainal and Muhammad Abqaari Irham Adam came top in division B and C respectively, and the top three places in the Optimist Novice category went to Andre Martin, Alexander Chiu Shinka and Macy Mosom Sikayun.

In the Windsurf category, Abidin Aliakbar was the men’s open winner and Tiong Jia Yi took the women’s title while the closed title for men went to Mohd Azmi Mohd Kahmis and the women’s title went to Marcella Wilson Villaceran.

Kite Surfing competition was also held with Jarrow Danie Marcus, Mitchell Cini and Abidin Aliakbar finishing in the top three places.

A total of 72 sailors took part in the annual event organised by the club.
