- They found that levels of specific per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS), including PFOA and PFOS, dropped by up to 25 per cent after two double-filtration plasmapheresis sessions.
- While promising for PFAS removal, the study did not yield clear results regarding the removal of microplastics from the blood using this method.
- Scientists cautioned that further controlled clinical trials are necessary to conclusively prove the technique's efficacy, stressing that preventing exposure to these chemicals remains the priority.
