Kota Kinabalu: Francis Chong Yu Shing has been appointed as the President of Penampang Municipal Council (PMC), effective Aug 1.
Deputy Chief Minister II cum Local Government and Housing Minister Datuk Seri Dr Joachim Gunsalam presented the appointment letter to Chong, 59, at a ceremony in Wisma Innoprise, here, Monday.
Chong brings a wealth of experience, having served for 37 years in the public service.
Prior to his appointment as Penampang District Officer, he was previously Kudat Assistant District Officer (Development) and Assistant District Officer in Matunggong Sub-District.

He said PMC has strong support from the Ministry.
Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor is expected to launch PMC in October this year. Also receiving their letters of appointment were PMC Deputy President Noemi Deyna Johntren; Secretary Robert Malangkig; and Deputy Secretary Andresia A Lojingau.
Also present were Local Government and Housing Ministry’s Permanent Secretary Datuk Dr Jamili Nais; Deputy Permanent Secretary I Stanley Chong; Deputy Permanent Secretary II Faridah Giau; and Under Secretary (Development) Johnny Samson.
