Kota Kinabalu: All Saints Cathedral (ASC) will host a special multi-denominational service tomorrow as part of the Malaysia Day of Prayer (MDOP) 2026.
Suffragan Bishop for the Anglican Area Diocese of Sabah West, the Right Reverend Kenneth Thien Su Yin, said the event would mark a milestone in the history of MDOP.
“For the first time, the Sabah Council of Churches (SCC) is co-hosting the nationwide event with the Council of Churches of Malaysia (CCM), the Catholic Archdiocese of Kuala Lumpur and Prayer United,” he said.
He said it would also be the first time that the Sabah segment would be livestreamed as part of the nationwide event.
“A pre-recorded message and prayer by the Diocesan Bishop of the Anglican Diocese of Sabah, the Right Reverend Datuk Melter Jiki Tais, was featured during MDOP 2024,” he said.
Thien said MDOP 2026 would comprise eight segments, each lasting between 1½ and 2½ hours, from 7am to 10.30pm.
“The service at ASC will run from 9.30am to 11.30am. We expect about 500 people from different churches around Kota Kinabalu, as well as church leaders from Kuala Lumpur, to join us in praying for the country,” he said.
He added that Deputy Chief Minister III Datuk Ewon Benedick had also been invited to attend.
This year’s theme is “Perfect love casts out fear.”Other venues hosting MDOP 2026 gatherings include St Anthony’s Church in Kuala Lumpur, the Putrajaya Boiler Room, Tamil Methodist Church and Damansara Utama Methodist Church BM in Petaling Jaya, City of Light Family Church in Klang, Penang International Church, St Stephen’s Church in Sungai Duuh, Sarawak, and Borneo Evangelical Mission in Canada Hill, Sarawak.
The nationwide Malaysia Day of Prayer gatherings, co-organised by Christian bodies including the CCM and National Evangelical Christian Fellowship (NECF), bring together Christians from different denominations to pray for national unity, leadership, peace and prosperity.
