MANILA, Philippines —The Cybercrime Investigation and Coordinating Center (CICC) has temporarily blocked the video game GoreBox after the police found out that one of the two teens behind the school shooting in Tacloban played it prior to the attack.
The CICC said that the game is known for its “graphic depictions of violence” and allows players to experiment with different kinds of weapons.
First launched in 2023, GoreBox markets itself as "a physics-driven sandbox game where creativity meets unrestrained destruction." Unlike other shooting games that rely on very realistic graphics, Gorebox uses blocky animation, akin to Roblox and Minecraft. The game is available for PCs and Android devices.
Following the Tacloban shooting tragedy, the CICC reiterated its commitment to providing rapid incident response. At the same time, they also urged the public to immediately report cases of cyberbullying and other online threats through Hotline 1326 or report@cicc.gov.ph.
The agency said it would continue to work with relevant government agencies and stakeholders as authorities investigate the circumstances surrounding the Tacloban school shooting incident.
