MANILA, Philippines — One of the teenagers involved in the shooting at the San Jose National High School in Tacloban, Leyte was addicted to a violent online game, the Police Regional Office Eastern Visayas (PRO 8) said on Tuesday.
“As per our investigation, it was GoreBox,” PRO 8 director Brig. Gen. Jason Capoy said in a phone interview with reporters.
“It is a shooting game. There are firearms there. The game is rather violent,” he added.
On Monday morning, two minors, armed with a .9mm Glock and a .38 revolver, shot their fellow Grade 9 classmates resulting in the death of three students and injury of 20 others.
Forty shells were recovered at the crime scene.
A background check on the boy’s social media account revealed that he made numerous violent posts prior to the incident.
Among the posts was a video of him in a firing range doing target shooting. Capoy said however that the boy could be considered a target shooter.
“He’s not that good to be considered an expert but he knew how to release and load magazines,” Capoy said.
