THE Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) assured the families of Ateneo Blue Eagles Rene Baterbonia and Divine Adili of their commitment to deliver justice.
Baterbonia and Adili drowned during a team-building activity in Dipaculao, Aurora, under the watch of former Ateneo basketball coach Tab Baldwin.
MGen. Robert Alexander Morico II met the bereaved parents of Baterbonia, Rene Sr. and Rovelyn, at Camp Crame on Tuesday.
The couple was accompanied by their eldest son Ruveyan and two legal counsels.
During the meeting, the CIDG presented the comprehensive timeline of the tragic June 8 incident, the established facts, and the specific charges for violations of Republic Act 11053, or the Anti-Hazing Act of 2018, Homicide under Article 249, and Reckless Imprudence resulting in Homicide under Article 365 of the Revised Penal Code, which were recommended to be filed against Baldwin and 11 others.
The criminal complaints have been referred to the Department of Justice (DOJ) for case build-up and evaluation consistent with DOJ Circular 20 (DC 20).
Morico introduced the Baterbonias members of the command group, top intelligence and investigation officers, as well as specialized legal teams handling the case.
The couple was informed that Philippine National Police chief Gen. Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr. has deployed a team of PNP lawyers to assist and oversee the investigative process.
