MANILA, Philippines — The Civil Aeronautics Board (CAB) on Tuesday announced that the fuel surcharge for domestic and international flights will increase in April as the war in the Middle East continued to have an impact on oil prices.

From April 1-April 15, the fuel surcharge rates for domestic and international flights will be between P253 and P787 and P835 and P6,208.98 respectively depending on the distance, according to CAB's Policy Resolution 25.

Instead of the one-month cycle, CAB said it has also temporarily adopted a fifteen-day price monitoring system and cycle to cushion the effects of the war on oil prices.

It added that the next and succeeding applicable levels shall be announced at least 3 days prior to effectivity, and the evaluation period shall transition to 15-days in accordance with the 15- day implementation period.

Fuel surcharges are an additional, often variable fee, added to transportation, shipping, or travel costs to offset volatile fuel prices.
