CJ Perez catches fire as SMB squeaks past TNT for 2-1 lead

MANILA, Philippines — CJ Perez went on a personal 7-0 run inside the last 41 seconds to loift San Miguel Beer to a pulsating 95-89 win against TNT to grab a 2-1 lead in their PBA Season 50 Philippine Cup best-of-7 Finals on Sunday at the SM Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay.

With the Beermen down, 89-86 following a Henry Galinato dunk, the SMB wingman came to the rescue by knocking a four-point shot to give the defending champion a one-point lead with 41 seconds left.

TNT gunner Rey Nambatac missed a three-point attempt in the ensuing play, and from there, Perez launched a three of his own to give San Miguel a 93-89 lead. with 12.3 seconds left.

Jordan Heading tried to tie the game with a four-point shot but his llng heave failed to hit the mark.

The Tropang 5G were forced  to foul, sending SMB sharpshooter Marcio Laasiter to the foul line.

The Fil-American guard made his pair of foul shots to seal the outcome.

Perez led SMB with 20 points, Don Trollano added 19, while June Mr Fajardo had 16 and 27 rebounds in a monster effort.
