Kota Kinabalu: It is not appropriate for Malaysia to bring the Sulu claim on Sabah to the International Court of Justice (ICJ) since it only concerns so-called heirs of the defunct sultanate and not the Philippines Government.
Minister in Prime Minister’s Department (Sabah & Sarawak affairs and Special Duties) Datuk Armizan Mohd Ali said the matter does not fall under the purview of international jurisdictions.
“The ICJ has no jurisdiction over such claim because it hears and adjudicates legal disputes between states (countries). The party claiming to be Sulu heirs is not representing a sovereign state, but as a group of individuals,” he said.
