Clashes erupt in Bolivia amid economic crisis

Thousands of supporters of former Bolivian president Evo Morales marched into La Paz on Monday as protests linked to the country’s economic crisis intensified.

Demonstrators clashed with riot police after a six-day march through the Andes, with tear gas and dynamite blasts reported in parts of the capital.

Protesters demanded the resignation of President Rodrigo Paz, whose government faces mounting pressure over fuel shortages, inflation and a lack of US dollars.

Roadblocks organised by groups allied with Morales have disrupted transport for more than two weeks, leaving trucks stranded and causing shortages of food, fuel and medical supplies.

Authorities said at least 90 people had been arrested during efforts to clear the blockades.
