An 18-year-old Class XII student died after being struck by an iron sheet blown away during a storm at Bhond village in the Ferozepur Jhirka area on Tuesday evening. The incident has left the village in mourning.
Back-to-back storms on Sunday and Tuesday disrupted normal life in the area. Hundreds of birds died, trees were uprooted, some kutcha houses collapsed and more than 30 electricity poles were damaged.
The storm on Sunday had completely disrupted power supply in the area. Electricity poles and wires were damaged at several places and it took more than 13 hours to restore supply. Tuesday’s storm again disrupted power supply for nearly three hours.
According to the police, the deceased was identified as Akil, a resident of Bhond village. He was sitting in the verandah of his house on Tuesday evening when the weather suddenly changed and strong winds swept through the area. An iron sheet from a shed near the house was blown away and hit him.
Akil was a Class XII student and also helped his family with household responsibilities. Villagers described him as a friendly and hardworking youth. His sudden death has deeply saddened the village.
