The Independent’s chief international correspondent Bel Trew outlined what would be the lasting impacts of the US’s ongoing war with Iran in a powerful conversation to launch The Independent’s third annual Climate 100 List.
One hundred leaders of humanitarian organisations, business titans, environmentalists, scientists and creatives are featured on the list, following the success of the past two lists. It celebrates leaders on diverse paths with a singular goal: tackling the worsening climate crisis.
The launch took place Tuesday during the annual New York City Climate Week, which coincides with the gathering of the United Nations General Assembly in the city.
Speaking to David Callaway, founder of analysis group Callaway Climate Insights, Trew predicted: “We will have a food crisis off the back of the fact that there was interruption to fertilizers right now.”
Trew, who recently reported from Sudan, added: “We are not seeing the impact on our lives in the full amount. That won’t happen for another year.”
