Japan’s iconic Mount Fuji has officially opened for the 2026 climbing season and will remain so till September 10, 2026. The volcano is ready to welcome adventure enthusiasts from all over the world. From witnessing spectacular sunrise views above the clouds to trekking scenic volcanic trails, the annual climb offers an unforgettable journey in ‘The Land of the Rising Sun’.
Mount Fuji climbing season 2026: Key details

This year, Yamanashi Prefecture has installed two self-checkout machines at the fifth station entrance to the Yoshida Route. This will allow climbers who have not pre-registered themselves online to pay a JPY 4,000 (approximately RM100.75) fee to ease congestion on one of Japan’s busiest climbing routes. The prefecture has also strengthened security around the summit area and has assigned guidance personnel on a 24-hour basis.
Officials believe that combining online registration, self-service kiosks, and improved safety measures will make the climbing process more efficient and organised. These changes are expected to streamline visitor movement and create a more enjoyable experience for climbers.
Mount Fuji opening schedule
- Yoshida Trail/Subashiri Trail is open from July 1, 2026.
- Fujinomiya Trail, Gotemba Trail, and the Summit Rim Trail will open to visitors from July 10, 2026.
