Climbing the Peak of Romance: The Wedding We Never Thought To Have On Mt Kinabalu

If my wife and I had been the type to lace up hiking boots and exchange vows with altitude sickness, we might have chosen an iconic place like Mount Kinabalu for our wedding photos.

Looking at the stunning shots of Chee Seng and Lilian, dressed up in full wedding attire at the summit, I couldn’t help but think, Why didn’t we think of that back in the day?

Scaling Southeast Asia's tallest peak in white dresses and suits certainly takes “tying the knot” to new heights – literally.

Sure, Kinabalu may not be as unforgiving as Mount Tahan, but it’s no stroll in the park either.

I wonder if, after hours of trudging up the mountain, they had a moment of clarity (or exhaustion) that made them question their own sanity. But from the looks of those pictures, every step was worth it.

And then there's the logistics. It’s one thing to get your hair wedding-ready in a plush hotel, but at 4,095 meters above sea level?

The winds alone could turn any updo into a down-don't. One can only imagine what they must have packed: wedding attire, makeup kits, maybe even a mini generator for a last-minute hair touch-up?

Every bride dreams of looking flawless on her wedding day, but for Lilian, that dream apparently extended to high-altitude survival.

Chee Seng and Lilian’s adventure speaks volumes about their love for each other—and for nature. His post capturing the scenic beauty surrounding them is a reminder that love goes beyond just two people; it’s about cherishing the world we share. And, if nothing else, it has given Sabah Tourism some incredible free publicity.

Perhaps my wife and I weren’t quite so adventurous back then, but looking at Chee Seng and Lilian, I can’t help but think: maybe we should celebrate our next anniversary at the summit—oxygen masks and all.
