Dong dong jiang, dong dong jiang, dong jiang, dong jiang! Chinese New Year is nearly here and you can definitely feel the mood in the air. Houses are putting up decorations and shops are selling their usual festive goodies. And of course, Malaysia’s malls are never stingy when it comes to holiday decorations.
So, which malls in the Klang Valley have put in the most effort? It is fair to say, all of them! But here are some of MFT’s favourite mall decorations. Which ones are yours?
- The Exchange TRX

While The Exchange TRX may be one of the newer malls on the block, it has certainly spared no expense when it comes to welcoming the Year of the Horse. With a theme of “Gallop into Grandeur”, the mall has a beautiful display of horse-related decorations, as well as a Chinese garden for shoppers to take photographs with. There is also an outdoor gallery where hundreds of ribbons hang from above, with well-wishes for the new year.
- Publika

If you love shopping at festive fairs, Publika has something going on just for you. Their theme for this year is “Serenity in Bloom”, so you can expect a truly floral theme. Indeed, at the centre of Publika’s Gallery, there is a line of stalls which form the shopping mall’s CNY bazaar. And at both ends of the bazaar are pavilions surrounded by colourful flowers. Perhaps they are there to let customers rest their feet after shopping at every stall!
- AEON Mall Bukit Tinggi

“Cai shen dao!” The God of Fortune is a major facet of any Chinese New Year celebration, with every household hoping he will visit them. But why wait for him to drop by when you can get to see him personally at AEON Mall Bukit Tinggi? This year’s theme is “Prosperity Blossoms” and you will be feeling extra prosperous when you pose with AEON Mall’s life-sized God of Fortune. Take photos, be thankful and who knows? Maybe a promotion is well on its way!
- Suria KLCC

Suria KLCC has a reputation for going all out when it comes to holiday decor. Just last year, they had an outdoor skating rink to celebrate Christmas. And for this year, they have brought out an Oriental Horse Carousel, a rare CNY-themed carousel for kids and adults alike! Nearby is a Lotus Pond of Blessings where shoppers are invited to make a wish for the Year of the Horse. Remember to pose for pictures on the bridge crossing over the pond!
- The Gardens Mall

When it comes to elegance, it is hard to beat The Gardens in that department. There may be a lack of horses galloping around the mall, but the mall’s theme of “Chinoiserie” makes sense when you see the beautiful displays set up throughout the mall. For context, “Chinoiserie” is a 17th and 18th-century European artstyle inspired by Chinese culture. And The Gardens has leaned into this, with displays of flowery deco, plus gorgeous cheongsams.
- Mid Valley Megamall

Mid Valley Megamall is right next door, so let’s see what they have up for this year! For 2026, Mid Valley is leaning into the theme of reunions and home. At the Centre Court, you can find a recreation of a kampung house, familiar to many people living in the Klang Valley. You can even find a replica of a table prepared with the all-important reunion dinner. There is definitely nostalgia at play here, making you super ready to balik kampung for CNY.
- Sunway Pyramid

All of Sunway’s malls have the same theme of “Galloping Into Prosperity”, so it’s hard to pick which one has the most memorable decor. So, we’ll just pick the OG mall, Sunway Pyramid! The centrepiece of this year’s displays is a giant golden horse on top of an equally giant lantern. These are surrounded by six colourful horses, designed by Sunway Uni lecturers. They symbolise joy and good fortune, and hopefully, that will rub off on you!
- IOI City Mall

Bigger is better! Or so one might think when they pop by to see what IOI City Mall has to offer in terms of decor. And indeed, a giant horse is waiting to greet visitors as well as welcome as the Year of the Horse. In addition to stalls selling the usual festive goods like cookies and lanterns, there is also a giant pagoda nearby. Unfortunately, you can’t climb it, but it still makes for an IG-friendly visual!
- Pavilion KL

It is not always that you can waltz around in a swanky robe reminiscent of those worn by emperors of the past. But at Pavilion KL, you can do just that? For this Chinese New Year, the elite KL mall has brought in quite a few niche but fascinating stalls to draw shoppers. One of them is, of course, a costume rental, where you can dress like emperors and empresses of old. There is also a seal and calligraphy shop where you can get an old-timey seal for yourself.
