Kota Kinabalu: The Kota Kinabalu City Hall (DBKK) made history as the first local authority in the state to formalise cooperation with the National Anti-Financial Crime Centre (NFCC).

Mayor Datuk Dr Sabin Samitah and NFCC Director General Datuk Shamshun Baharin bin Mohd Jamil signed the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on Sept 5.

This cooperation encompasses three key areas — Property Ownership Information, Licence Holder Information and Tenant Information.

This aim is to strengthen financial management and combat financial crime more effectively, ensuring accurate and up-to-date information is available for systematic control and monitoring.

Through this collaboration, the city’s ability to detect and address financial mismanagement will improve through real-time data integration, making the administration more transparent and accountable.

This, in turn, will boost the trust of Kota Kinabalu residents in the management of DBKK.

The signing ceremony was also witnessed by Sr Lifred Wong, DBKK Director General of Planning and Development and Mohd Syahrizal Shah Zakaria, Legal Advisor of NFCC, along with senior officials from DBKK and NFCC.

This agreement marks the beginning of a long-term collaboration that will enhance the well-being of the city while ensuring the continued protection of financial justice and transparency for the benefit of society and the nation.

Meanwhile, Shamshun noted that this initiative not only strengthens DBKK’s internal management but also the potential to serve as a model for other local authorities across the country.

With a robust data-sharing strategy, DBKK will continue to uphold integrity and increase transparency in city governance.

This step reflects DBKK’s commitment to ensuring that all aspects of financial management and crime control are carried out with discipline and compliance, in line with NFCC’s objective to mitigate the threat of financial crime.

He said cooperation is expected to spark more effective long-term collaboration opportunities to ensure the well-being of the people and sustainably enhance financial transparency.
