Combined Labuan team bags 12 medals

LABUAN: A combined team from Faxtive Athletics Club Labuan (FXAC) and the Persatuan Olimpian Amatur Labuan (POAL) returned with 12 medals from the Sabah Master Athletics Open Championship (Samoc) 2026, held from June 12 to 14.

The contingent of 26 athletes, aged between 30 and 75, claimed five gold, three silver and four bronze medals across various events.

Team Manager cum Secretary Jennifer Julius said the achievement proved that Labuan’s veteran athletes remained capable of competing strongly at state level.

Among the top performers, Allan Chin Ah Fatt won gold in the 800 metres Men’s M70-M74 category and silver in the 3,000 metres, while Masry Ali defended his gold in the 1,500 metres Men’s M45-M49 category.

Jessica Suip retained her gold in the 3,000 metres walk Women’s W35-W39 category and also claimed silver in the same event, while Junainah Azaman produced a surprise win in the long jump Women’s W45-W49 category.

Cecelia Ang E. Chen maintained her dominance in the 3,000 metres walk Women’s W60-W64 category.

“Silver was also contributed by Stella Josiris in the hurdles W35-W39 category, while bronze medals went to Chong Su Kim in the 100 metres W70-W74, Lee Kiat Khim in the 400 metres M60-M64, and Juliza Abdullah in the shot put W40-W44,” said Jennifer.

FXAC finished 14th overall among 35 competing teams.

FXAC Deputy Chairman Masry Ali, representing the club president, commended all athletes for their sportsmanship throughout the championship and expressed hope that more Labuan veteran athletes would join Samoc 2027.

POAL President Lee Kiat Khim praised FXAC for managing the Labuan contingent efficiently and encouraged athletes who did not medal to continue training ahead of future competitions.
